Volleyball Welcomes McKendree For Final Home Game on Tuesday

SPRINGFIELD IL. - The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team welcomes McKendree to The Recreation and Athletic Center for their final home game of the season. Game time is set for Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 7:00 p.m.

Last weekend, UIS fell to Drury, 3-1 and Missouri S&T in straight sets. Over the weekend, senior Nikki Madoch (Algonquin, Ill.) led the team with 15 kills. Freshman Alyssa Hasler (South Bend, Ind.) recorded 13 kills along with eight blocks and sophomore Lexi Hill (Champaign, Ill.) dished out a total of 33 assists. 

QUICK HITS
  • The Prairie Stars are 5-23 overall with a 2-13 Great Lakes Valley Conference record this season.
  • Both of the team's GLVC wins this season have come at home. The Prairie Stars defeated William Jewell and Bellarmine earlier this season. McKendree is 5-4 on the road this season.
  • Nikki Madoch leds the team in kills (225) and is second in blocks (74).
  • Alyssa Hasler is eighth in the GLVC in total blocks (104).
  • Junior Kayla Katarzynski (Winfield, Ill.) leads the team in digs (308).

LAST TIME
  • Back on October 6, the Bearcats defeated the Prairie Stars, 3-1, in Lebanon. UIS took the first set, 25-20, but dropped the final three sets for the loss. After hitting .280 in the first set, the Prairie Stars struggled convert their chances while posting a final hitting percentage of .040. Senior Heather Smack (St. Louis, Mo.) and freshman Emma Burkle (Crystal Lake, Ill.) led the team with eight and seven kills, respectively.
  • In 2014, McKendree defeated UIS twice by scores of 3-1 and 3-0. Then-Junior Nikki Madoch recorded a total of 21 kills in the two games while then-junior Rachelle Wiegand (Hecker, Ill.) led the team with 30 assists. The Prairie Stars look for the two seniors to lead them to victory for their final home game of the season.

SCOUTING MCKENDREE
  • The Bearcats are 19-9 overall this season and comes to Springfield riding a four-game winning streak.
  • McKendree is in first place on the east side of the GLVC with a 13-2 record.
  • Junior Sophie Fairman is second in the GLVC in hitting percentage (.376)
  • The Bearcats have six players with triple digit kills, led by sophomore Arela Williams (380).

UP NEXT
  • UIS wraps up the regular season on the road next weekend against Southern Indiana and Bellarmine. Games will be played on Friday and Saturday.
