Women's Hoops Prepares for Lincoln

SPRINGFIELD IL. - The University of Illinois Springfield women's basketball team looks to extend its win-streak to three games on Saturday as the Prairie Stars take on the Blue Tigers of Lincoln University. Tip off is set for Saturday, Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. at The Recreation and Athletic Center.

The Prairie Stars defeated Principia College on Tuesday, 58-43, and now have a 2-1 record. Three players scored in double figures for UIS, led by sophomore Shelbi Patterson (Indianapolis, Ind.) and freshman Chasitee Shroyer (Freeport, Ill.) with 13 points each. 

NEWS AND NOTES

LAST TIME
Last season, Lincoln University defeated UIS, 72-47. The Prairie Stars commited 25 turnovers in the game which led to 24 points for the Blue Tigers. Then-sophomore Syerra Cunningham (Beach Park, Ill.) scored a career-high 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds. 

NOT IN OUR HOUSE
The Prairie Stars are out-blocking their opponents 10-2 this season. Junior Chelsea Cross (Champaign, Ill.) leads the team with three blocks. 

REACHING NEW HEIGHTS
Two Prairie Stars had break-out performances in the team's 60-45 win against Lake Superior State. Senior Ashley McHenry, after being sidelined for most of last season due to injury, went 8-of-11 from the floor for a career-high 17 points. Junior-transfer Chelsea Cross also scored a career-high, netting 12 points.

SHOOTERS SHOOT
Senior Meredith Marti took 118 shots last season, 108 of which were three pointers. She's off to a similar start in 2015-16 as she is 6-for-22 from the floor, all but one of which have been three pointers.

DEFENSE WINS
The Prairie Stars have locked down their opponents so far this season. In three game this season UIS has allowed 54.3 points per game and has held opponents to a field goal percentage of  37.3.

UIS has forced 69 turnovers in just three games this season. Even in the team's 75-57 loss, the Prairie Stars forced 27 turnovers. The team is averaging just over 10 steals per game.

COMING UP NEXT
The Prairie Stars travel to Joplin, Mo. to take on Missouri Southern. Game time is set for Saturday, Nov. 28 at 1:00 p.m.
