Teichman Gives UIS 4-3 Win with Overtime Goal

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Junior Will Teichman (Springfield, Ill.) scored his first career goal for the Prairie Stars to give the University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team a 4-3 overtime win against Wisconsin-Parkside Sunday afternoon at Kiwanis Stadium.

The Result
  • Final Score: UIS 4 UWP 3 (OT)
  • Records: UIS (4-5-1, 2-5-1 GLVC), UWP (3-6-1, 3-4-1 GLVC)
  • Location: Springfield, Ill. - Kiwanis Stadium

How It Happened
  • The Prairie Stars got on the board in the 8th minute of play when Ruell Chappell (Glendale, Mo.) took a throw-in that bounced off a Parkside player into the goal.
  • The lead lasted only nine minutes though. Parkside was awarded a penalty kick in the 17th minute that Ryan Shogren buried to tie the game, 1-1. The visitors nearly took the lead just minutes later on a header by Phillip Koehler but it deflected off of the crossbar.
  • In the 29th minute, freshman Grant Bauer (Maryville, Ill.) beat a pair of Parkside defenders before touching the ball past the goalkeeper to give UIS the lead, 2-1. It was his first goal at UIS.
  • Parkside struck back just nine minutes later, again, on a free kick by Evan Garcia. The shot deflected and curled into the goal from 25 yards away. The score was 2-2 at the break.
  • In the second half, UIS took another lead. Sophomore Khalid Dhalla (Calgary, Canada) took a free kick from 30-plus yards away on the left side that bounced off the goalkeeper and into the goal. It was his first goal of the season.
  • Both teams had chances in the second half but neither could find the breakthrough until the visitors equalized in the 90th minute. With the team rushing forward after a handball was called, the ensuing free kick was headed in by Parkside's captain Matthew Yang.
  • In overtime, it took just five minutes for the Prairie Stars respond. A cross by Chappell was hit home by Teichman to give the hosts the win.
