SPRINGFIELD, IL - The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team hits the road this weekend to take on Maryville and Missouri St. Louis. Game times are set for Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m., respectively.
The Prairie Stars fell to Lewis and Wisconsin Parkside home last weekend. Friday's match against no. 18 Lewis turned into a thriller as the Prairie Stars won the third and fourth sets to tie the match, 2-2. Lewis defeated UIS in five sets. On Saturday against Parkside, the Prairie Stars grabbed the first set of the match, 25-21, but dropped the next three.
Quick Hits- Junior Ashley Beaton (Wildwood, Mo.) led the team in kills last weekend, compiling 23 kills, 15 digs and a service ace.
- Freshman Tiffany Wentworth (Omaha, Neb.) also had a strong weekend with 34 assists and 21 digs. She leads the team in assists (418) this season.
- The Prairie Stars are on a four-game skid dating back to the Mizuno Midwest Regional Crossover on October 17.
- One more Great Lakes Valley Conference win for UIS will surpass the 2014 team's mark of 2-16. The Prairie Stars are 2-9 heading into the weekend.
- UIS is 0-7 on the road this season, a trend the Prairie Stars look to reverse beginning on Friday against the Saints.
Last Time- Last season, UIS lost to Maryville, 3-0 (18-25, 12-25, 24-26), at TRAC. Then-sophomore Nora Palermo (West Chicago, Ill.) led the team with seven kills.
- Agains the Tritons in 2014, the Prairie Stars lost 3-0 (20-25, 19-25, 14-25).
Scouting Maryville- The Saints are 10-14 this season with a 2-9 GLVC mark. Maryville lost to no.10 Washburn in five sets, 2-3.
- Maryville is in seventh place in the GLVC West division, ahead of only William Jewell, a team that both UIS and Maryville defeated this season.
- Three players for the Saints have over 200 kills this season led by Maddie Timmermann with 231.
Scouting UMSL- The Tritons are in fifth place in the GLVC West division with a 5-6 record. UMSL is 11-13 overall
- UMSL is hitting .180 as a team and averages 12.37 kills per set.
- Sophomore Gina Pezze leads the squad with 2.77 kills per set and also adds 2.50 digs per set, while freshman Maddy Russell follows with 2.53 kills and 2.40 digs per set. Russell also leads the team wtih 16 service aces.
- UMSL is coming off a 3-0 loss to No. 9 ranked Rockhurst, which snapped a three-match win streak.\
