Allevi Hat Trick Gives Prairie Stars 3-1 Win

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Junior Zachary Allevi (Adelaide, Australia) netted a hat trick Friday evening to give the University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team a 3-1 victory against Lewis at Kiwanis Stadium.

The Basics
  • Final Score: UIS 3, Lewis 1
  • Records: Lewis (0-8-1, 0-6-1 GLVC), UIS (3-5-1, 1-5-1 GLVC)
  • Location: Springfield, Ill. - Kiwanis Stadium

How It Happened
  • Lewis threatened to score from the first whistle, creating chances in the 4th, 13th and 17th minutes before finally scoring in the 19th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Less than a minute later, the Prairie Stars earned a corner kick, which they used to equalize on a header by Zachary Allevi. Sophomore Khalid Dhall (Calgary, Canada) picked up the assist.
  • Both teams created chances in the rest of the period, but sophomore goalkeeper Tommy Geile (O'Fallon, Mo.) was busy, stopping three shots in the final 20 minutes.
  • The second half was an even affair as both teams put shots on target.
  • With just over six minutes left in the game, Allevi was pulled down in the box and awarded a penalty. The Flyer's goalkeeper saved the penalty shot but the rebound fell right to Allevi who headed it in for the go-ahead goal.
  • The insurance came in the 88th minute when Allevi got on the end of a long ball from junior Zach Downing (Danville, Ill.) and shot it past the keeper into the left corner.
