Men's Soccer Outshoots Rangers, 14-10, in 2-0 defeat

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Prairie Stars outshot the visiting Rangers, 14-10, but couldn't find the scoring touch as Wisconsin-Parkside defeated the University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Kiwanis Stadium.

UIS came out on the attack creating three shots and a corner kick in the first eight minutes. Redshirt-freshman Nathan Kingstad (Winchester, Ill.), in his first start this season, had two of the shots and four in the game.

In the fifteenth minute, Parkside won its only corner kick of the half, and the Rangers took advantage. Parkside's Antonio Gonzalez got on the end of the corner and sent a shot that rattled the crossbar. Defender Edwin Gomez was there for the rebound and put the visitors up 1-0.

The Prairie Stars went on the offensive, outshooting Parkside, 6-2, in the remaining half-hour. In the final six minutes of the period, UIS put three shots on frame, including two from sophomore forward Dylan Stockman (Peoria, Ill.), but the Rangers' Marcos Perez stopped each shot.

After the break, both teams created chances and fought for control of the midfield. In the 63rd minute, Kingstad found space for a shot but Perez was there for the save.

The Rangers found an insurance goal in the 77th minute when a shot from Joe Elwell beat UIS keeper Kyle Hamilton (Bethalto, Ill.) on the counter-attack to make the score 2-0. The Prairie Stars made one final attempt in the 81st minute but Addison Ferry's (Millstadt, Ill.) attempt was saved by the Rangers' Perez.

UIS is on the road next weekend as the team travels to Indianapolis and Saint Joseph's.
