Bolin Scores Late, Women's Soccer Ties Saint Joseph's, 1-1

RENSSELAER, Ind. - Freshman Regina Bolin (Kansas City, Mo.) scored the equalizing goal in the 84th minute of play as the University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team tied Saint Joseph's, 1-1, Sunday afternoon at Joseph L. Minielli Memorial Field.

With UIS trailing 1-0 in the 84th minute, the Prairie Stars won a free kick in the Pumas' half. On the ensuing kick, Bolin picked up a deflection and buried the ball in the bottom corner of the net to tie the game, 1-1. It was Bolin's second goal of the season and she is now second on the team with four points.

The hosts threatened to end the game in regulation in the 90th minute but Elizabeth Travis' shot sailed high, sending the game into overtime.

In the first period of overtime, neither team was able to create any real chances to score until the 98th minute when senior Ashley Surface (Alto Loma, Calif.) found space for a shot but Saint Joseph's Melissa Kuhar was there for the save.

In the second overtime, both keepers were busy as the Pumas' Kuhar made three saves while junior Paige Polonus (Plainfield, Ill.) made a pair of saves for UIS, including one in the final seconds to keep the score level. Polonus finished the game with four saves.

The teams played the first half to a scoreless draw. The Prairie Stars outshot the Pumas 6-4 in the half and 18-15 overall. Saint Joseph's took the lead just over a minute into the second half when Calleigh Olson sent a rocket into the top corner of the net for her second goal of the season. It was the team's only shot on goal in the half.

After the goal, the Prairie Stars nearly drew even on a shot from senior Kim Tokarski (Hobart, Ind.), but Kuhar made the save. The visitors struggled to put any shots on frame until the 84th minute when Bolin found the mark to make the score 1-1.

The Prairie Stars are back in action at Kiwanis Stadium this Friday as they host Rockhurst on Homecoming night.
