SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -Â Rockhurst took the lead in the ninth minute of play and never looked back as the University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team fell to the Hawks, 3-0, Friday night at Kiwanis Stadium.
The visitors tallied goals in the ninth, 33rd and 42nd minutes to give the Prairie Stars their seventh loss of the season. Junior goalkeeper
Paige Polonus (Plainfield, Ill.) grabbed six saves in the defeat.
After Rockhurst went ahead in the early going, UIS nearly equalized when senior
Ashley Surface (Alto Loma, Calif.) found space in front of the goal to loose a shot, but the Hawk's Caitlin Winschel was there for the save. The Prairie Stars managed just four shots in the game including two from Surface.
Rockhurst tacked on two more before halftime as the game went into the break with the score 3-0.Â
In the second half, Polonus went to work straight away with a save Jessica Cook's shot in the 48th minute. The Plainfield native made four saves in the period. The Prairie Star struggled to create any scoring chances as their only shot on goal in the half came in the 89th minute.
UIS is back in action on Sunday to host William Jewell. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
