INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Two second-half goals by the Greyhounds were enough on Friday evening as the University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team fell to Indianapolis, 2-0, at Key Stadium.
UIndy broke the deadlock in the 64th minute and then added an insurance goal in the 88th minute to seal the victory.
After the Greyhounds produced the games first two shots, the Prairie Stars threatened to score in the 10th minute, when senior forward
Kim Tokarski (Hobart, Ind.) found space for a shot but UIndy keeper Megan Fee was there for the save. Tokarski threatened with another shot just one minute later but it sailed wide.
The hosts dominated the rest of the period, outshooting UIS 12-4. Tokarski put a shot on frame in the 29th minute, the Prairie Stars final shot in the half, but was unable to score.
The Greyhounds continued to create chances to score in the second stanza, but junior
Paige Polonus (Plainfield, Ill.) was there each time, stopping three shots in the first ten minutes of the half. After drawing a foul, Sophomore
Alena Eitenmiller (Rockford, Ill.) got on the end of the free kick, putting her shot on frame but Fee was there for the save. An errant shot by freshman
Regina Bolin (Kansas City, Mo.) in the 55th minute was the Prairie Stars last of the day.
Indianapolis found the breakthrough in the 64th minute on a corner kick that Stacey Klene headed home. The Greyhounds found an insurance goal in the 88th minute on another corner kick, this time Jocelyn Evan's header found the mark to make the final score, 2-0.
The Prairie Stars stay on the road for a game with Saint Joseph's on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
