Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bellarmine Earns 2-0 Victory against UIS

LOUISVILLE, Ill. - The Knights outshot the Prairie Stars 31-4 as the University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team fell to Bellarmine, 2-0, Friday night at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

Bellarmine outshot the Prairie Stars 14-2 in the first half and 17-2 in the second half, eventually tallying goals in the 51st and 78th minutes to defeat the visiting Prairie Stars. UIS is now 4-12 on the season and 2-11 in the GLVC.

Freshman goalkeeper Kyle Hamilton (Bethalto, Ill.) finished with a career-high ten saves in the loss. He stopped seven shots in the second half as the Prairie Stars fought to get back in the game.

UIS created arguably its best chances to score at the very beginning of the second period. With the game still scoreless in the 49th minute, junior Mark Williams (St. George, Barbados) let loose a shot that was stopped by Bellarmine keeper Tommy Hebert.

After the Knights scored to take a 1-0 lead at the 50-minute mark, the Prairie Stars earned back-to-back corners, resulting in a shot from redshirt-freshman Nathan Kingstad (Winchester, Wis.), but his effort was saved by Hebert. The Springfield squad was unable to create any more shots in the final 40 minutes as the hosts went on to win, 2-0.

The Prairie Stars are back in action at Kiwanis Stadium on Sunday against Southern Indiana for senior day. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
