Dhalla Scores First-Career Goal in 2-1 Loss

ROLLA, Mo. - Freshman defender Khalid Dhalla (Calgary, Canada) scored his first goal as a Prairie Star on a penalty in the 17th minute of play, but the Miners came back, eventually defeating the University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team, 2-1, Friday night.

Dhalla finished with a career-high two shots-on-goal for the visiting Prairie Stars. UIS held a 1-0 advantage after his penalty in the 17th minute as both teams created chances to score in the remainder of the half. UIS nearly doubled its advantage in the 39th minute when sophomore Dylan Stockman's (Peoria, Ill.) effort was saved off the line by one of the Miner players.

S&T turned up the pressure, outshooting the Prairie Stars 10-4 in the first half and eventually found the equalizer just one minute before the halftime whistle.

The teams came out firing in the second period. Stockman found space for one of his team-high five shots in the 58th minute, but S&T keeper James Holloway was there for the save. He almost broke the deadlock in the 74th minute, but again Holloway made the stop.

With the score tied, 1-1, late in the second half, the Miners capitalized on a corner kick to score the go-ahead goal in the 78th minute of play. The Prairie Stars' final chance came in the 87th minute from Dhalla, but his shot was saved.

UIS travels to Drury on Sunday for a 2:30 p.m. game.
