SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -Â Drury took the lead in the third minute and never looked back as the University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team fell to Drury, 2-0, Sunday afternoon.
Drury went on the attack from the first whistle. UIS goalkeeper
Kyle Hamilton (Bethalto, Ill.) stopped his first shot of the game in the second minute of play. Less than one minute later, the Panthers were awarded a penalty kick and Drury's Jack Mathis converted to give the hosts the lead.
Later in the half, the Prairie Stars nearly equalized but
Dylan Stockman's (Peoria, Ill.) shot was saved by Drury keeper Logan Ponche. In the 18th minute, UIS threatened again when
Ben Flodstrom (Champaign, Ill.) found space for a shot, but it was again stopped by the Panther's keeper.
Drury outshot UIS seven to four in the first half and 15 to five in the game. In the second period, UIS created only one shot as the Prairie Stars fought to find the equalizer. The Panthers continued to attack, eventually finding an insurance goal in the 86th minute from Mathis.
Hamilton finished with two saves for UIS.
The Prairie Stars return to Kiwanis Stadium on Wednesday to host Upper Iowa at 3 p.m.
