Stephanie Sagat begins her third year as assistant coach for the Illinois Springfield volleyball program.

Sagat brings a vast amount of experience to the Prairie Stars as she has been involved in coaching since 2006.  She has coached with the 1st Alliance Volleyball Club, worked various volleyball camps and, most recently, was a private sand volleyball instructor. Aside from her volleyball duties, Sagat has also worked as an instructional teacher assistant at an Autism Center.

Sagat also had an extremely decorated collegiate career as a student-athlete at Lewis University. She helped lead the volleyball program to three straight Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championships in 2006-08. As a senior in 2009, she was selected as an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American, was the Daktronics Region Player of the Year as well as the GLVC’s Player of the Year. She also made the AVCA and the Daktronics All-Region team and was Lewis’ Most Valuable Player in each of her last two seasons with the Flyers. As a freshman in 2006, she was named the GLVC and AVCA Regional Freshman of the Year as well as a third team All-GLVC pick. She was then a second team honoree her next two seasons and earned first team accolades after her senior campaign.

Sagat graduated as Lewis’ all-time leader in kills (1,767) and also finished third in kills per set and digs, fourth in service aces, ninth in hitting percentage and 10th in block assists.

Along with her success on the court, Sagat was also a decorated student. She graduated from Lewis with honors, made the Dean’s List every semester and also won the school’s Delahanty Award for academic excellence among student-athletes in each of her four years. She graduated from Lewis in December, 2010 with a degree in elementary education and will be working to get her masters in human development counseling at UIS.
