Frank Marsaglia enters his 13
th season in 2020-21 as the men’s golf head coach at the University of Illinois Springfield, and is in his ninth year as the women’s head coach.
The Prairie Stars have made steady improvements each year under Marsaglia, prior to the shortened 2019-20 season. On the women’s side, UIS had its top four scoring averages over the last four campaigns, including a record 315.21 in 2017-18. The UIS men’s program has set its three-highest marks since 2016-17, including a record 300.05 scoring average in 2018-19.
In his first eight years as the women’s coach, he has led the team to 15 victories, and the Prairie Stars have defeated over 53 percent of their opponents. Marsaglia has led UIS to four straight NCAA Regional appearance from 2016-19. In 2019, the women’s program had their first NCAA Division II National Championship qualifier in Jennifer Queller.
In his first 12 seasons as the men’s head coach, UIS has won nine tournaments, and has defeated 48.2 percent of their opponents. Marsaglia helped coached Talon Supak to two NCAA regional appearances. In 2016, Supak won the individual title at the regional championships, and became the first Prairie Star golfer to advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships.
Other highlights from his UIS career include his daughter, Casara, becoming the first UIS golfer to earn all-GLVC honors in 2013-14, and Supak earning a program-best three all-GLVC awards.
Prior to coaching at UIS, Marsaglia had been the assistant golf coach at Virden High School, working with both the boy’s and girl’s teams since 2005. He also served on the coaching staffs for both volleyball and baseball at Virden as well.
Away from the course, Marsaglia serves as the President of Marsaglia Computers, Inc. a position he has held since 1985. The business builds custom computer packages for business, home and school settings.
A Virden, Illinois native, Marsaglia is a 1983 graduate of Florida Atlantic where he played baseball. He also was a member of the baseball team at Lincoln Land Community College prior to attending Florida Atlantic. Marsaglia earned his master's in computer science from UIS.
