Steve Yang is in his first season as assistant women's basketball coach at the University of Illinois Springfield.
Yang joins the Prairie Stars for the 2014-15 season after spending the 2013-14 season as the Director of Basketball Operations at Winthrop in South Carolina. Prior to his stint with the Eagles, Yang served as the Director of Basketball Operations at Missouri State and spent four years at Evangel University as an assistant coach and video coordinator. He also spent time as an assistant at McCook Community College.
Yang has served as an instructor at basketball camps such as Missouri State, Kansas, Marquette, Wisconsin, Evangel, Minnesota and Brandon Jennings' camp when Jennings was with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Steve also brings head coaching experience to Springfield. He served as the head coach at Miami School in Amoret, Mo. as well the AAU program (Dynasty) in the Southwest Missouri region.
He also held the position of Vice-President for the Asian Coaches Association, which features members from all levels of basketball.
Originally from Tulsa, Okla., Yang earned his Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Leisure Studies from Missouri State in 2006, and followed that up with a Master of Science in Administrative Studies and Sports Management from MSU in 2010.
Steve also serves as the Community Engagement Coordinator for the department.
