Matt McGowan enters his first season as the assistant coach at Illinois Springfield for men’s and women’s tennis.
A standout student-athlete, Matt was a four year starter for the Prairie Stars and played No. 1 in both singles and doubles. A strong student as well, McGowan was awarded the Great Lakes Valley Conference Council of President’s Academic Excellence Award and was a Division 2 Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Award winner during his senior season. He was also selected to the GLVC All-Academic team in each of the three seasons UIS was a member of the league.
Prior to coming to UIS, McGowan was an All-State selection in both singles and doubles at Plainfield Central High School in Plainfield, Ill.
McGowan graduated from UIS in the Capital Scholars Honors Program this past spring.
