Ignacio Ascarrunz

Ignacio Ascarrunz is in his third season as an assistant coach for the University of Illinois Springfield tennis teams in 2023-24.
 
In his first season, Ascarrunz helped the Prairie Stars win a combined 17 matches, and the women’s team advanced to the GLVC Tournament. He coached four all-conference players with two each on the men’s and women’s squads.

Ascarrunz comes to UIS after a four-year career at Young Harris University. During his career, he won 25 singles matches and 27 doubles contests. In his sophomore season, he was ranked as high as No. 29 in the ITA Division II National Doubles Rankings, and finished the year ranked 37th. He is eighth all-time in the program's NCAA history in doubles victories, and 10th in singles wins.
 
Among the academic honors that Ascarrunz earned in college were being placed on the ITA All-Academic team, the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll, and the Peach Belt Team of Academic Distinction.
 
Ascarrunz graduated Young Harris College in 2021 with a management degree. He is originally from Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
