Sarah Jones became the head coach of the UIS cheerleading team in 2015.
While at UIS, Jones has grown the team from eight to 15 members and improved the overall tumbling skills as a team. Along with that, the 15-member team performed at Blue Madness and has continued to build relationships across campus and across the community.
A lifelong cheerleader and gymnast, Jones has been involved in acrobatics for 28 years and has nine years of coaching experience. She brings coaching experience from Division I SIU Edwardsville and competitive experience from the Division I, large co-ed team at the University of Central Arkansas.
She also has experience competing on the International Open 6, all-star team from Arkansas Cheer Elite and cheering on the small co-ed squad at the University of Arkansas Little Rock. While at SIUE, Jones helped develop the competitive aspect of the program by teaching advanced acrobatic skills.
Prior to her time with the Cougars, she was a coach at Little Rock Christian Academy, Central Arkansas Cheer and Kidsport Family Fun and Fitness. Jones also has experience planning and coordinating camps as she was an instructor at the Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders
Jones is an adjunct professor at UIS in the Intensive English Program. Jones graduated with a bachelor of arts in speech communication from UALR and finished her master of teaching in 2014 at SIUE with a certification in secondary English.
