Ron Wojcicki is in his fourth season as an assistant coach for the University of Illinois Springfield baseball team in 2021. A native of St. Louis, Mo., Wojcicki is a lifelong baseball coach and administrator.Â
Wojcicki has been part of the UIS coaching staff for the top two seasons in program history in 2018-19. Over those years, UIS went 88-26-1 overall. The 2018 team set a program-record with a 47-9 mark, won the first GLVC Championship in program history, and advanced to its first NCAA postseason. In 2019, UIS went 41-17-1 overall, and the Prairie Stars advanced to the NCAA Division II Super Regionals, its farthest postseason run in program history. He also assisted on the program’s good start in 2020 with a 10-4 mark before the season ended early.
Wojcicki taught at New Berlin High School for seven years (1974-1981) before moving to Springfield Griffin/Sacred Heart-Griffin High School for the next 19 years (1981-2000). He was the band director for ten years, followed by being the Director of Development for nine years. During that time, he was also the head baseball coach for 15 years.Â
During his tenure at Griffin and SHG, Wojcicki won the Class AA state baseball championship in 1987, defeating the defending state champion, Barrington High School. Wojcicki then led the Cyclones to two more state tournament appearances. He coached one player who appeared in the majors, and nine others who played professional baseball.Â
Wojcicki retired from the UIS Office of Advancement in June of 2016, and was a volunteer assistant at MacMurray College in 2016-17.Â
Wojcicki earned a bachelor's degree in music from MacMurray College and a Master's degree in Music Education from the University of Illinois, Urbana.Â
Wojcicki and his wife Karen have been married for over 40 years, and have two children and three grandchildren.Â
