1971- The SSU Baseball team was established as the first SSU sport.

1977- John Watts mascot idea of the Prairie Stars was picked to represent SSU.

Men's Soccer played first game, defeating Bradley University 4-2.

Rick Wiegand became SSU's first-ever all-american.

1978 - Rick Wiegand earns back-to-back All-American honors and also earned All-Tournament recognition.

1979- SSU's first intercollegiate Women's Tennis took to the courts in the fall.

Oscar Lambdin was named a men's soccer All-American second team selection.

1980 - Men's tennis added as a varsity sport.

Aydin Gonulsen named NAIA Men's Soccer Coach of the Year.

1986- The SSU Men's Soccer team won the NAIA National Championship.

Bill Becher and Marty Pike were named an All-American third team honorees.

1987 - Men's soccer went on to defeat powerful UCLA in the World Collegiate Championship. There they placed second in the world.

Fall 1987 - Ezekiel Doe earns All-American honors in soccer and also earns All-Tournament Honors. Mark Moser named to the NAIA Men's Soccer All-American third team.

1988- Men's Soccer won second NAIA National Championship.

Ezekiel Doe earns all-american honors and is also named the tournament's MVP, setting an NAIA record with 110 points (49 goals, 12 assists).

1989 - Volleyball and coed sailing added as varsity sports.

Ezekiel Doe becomes SSU's first-ever three-time All-American player.

Kevin Groark also named a third-team All-American for men's soccer.

1991- Women's Tennis won NAIA Regional Title.

Fall 1992 - Volleyball finished 26-6 and ranked in the top four of the District 20 State Tournament.

1992- Women's Tennis won NAIA Regional Title.

1993- Men's Soccer won its third NAIA National Championship. Aydin Gonulsen wins second NAIA Coach of the Year Honors.

Women's Tennis won NAIA Regional Title and the NAIA District 20 Championship for the sixth consecutive year.

1995- SSU became the University of Illinois at Springfield, the third campus of the U of I system.

1995- UIS women played their first basketball game against the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Women's Tennis won NAIA Regional Title.

1996- Women's Tennis won NAIA Regional Title.

Fall 1998 - Volleyball captured the NAIA Independent Sectional Title & four players were named to the All-Region Team.

Coach Jenny Wood was named Regional Coach of the year.

Winter 1998- Women's basketball standout Jessica Langenbahn named an NAIA All-American and a Scholar-Athlete.

Women's Tennis won NAIA Regional Title.

1999- Women's Tennis won NAIA Regional Title.

2000 - Carla Jimenez becomes first-ever women's tennis All-America honoree, earning a spot on the second team.

2002 - UIS adds men's basketball.

November 9, 2002 - Men's basketball wins first-ever game against Cardinal Stritch.

2003- UIS joined the American Midwest Conference. Women's Tennis won NAIA Regional Title.

2005 - Men's basketball won the AMC Conference and Tournament Championship.

Men's basketball advanced to the NAIA National Tournament.

Kevin Gamble was named the 2006 AMC Coach of the Year and Kelvin Johnson was named Freshman of the Year.

2007 - Men's basketball player Eddie Smith named NAIA All-American.

2008 - Women's soccer added as a varsity sport.

2010 - Baseball added as a varsity sport.

2010- UIS Athletics became a full-fledged member of NCAA Division II in the Great Lake Valley Conference.

2012- Softball won the GLVC regular season West Division Conference Title and earned a spot in the NCAA Division II Regionals.

2014- Baseball earns first GLVC tournament berth

October 2014 - Inducted first ever hall of fame class: 1986 Men's Soccer, Aydin Gonulsen, Harold Christofilakos, Carla Jimenez-Mills and Elias Shehadi

2015 - UIS announced the addition of cross country and track & field.
