The UIS women's cross country team will compete in the Illinois State Redbird Invite on Friday at 11:15 a.m. in Normal, Ill.

The Prairie Stars will face host Illinois State, Eastern Illinois, Northern Illinois and Iowa. The entire field consists of NCAA Division I opponents.

Friday's race will be UIS' first 6K of the season, giving the Prairie Stars their first opportunity to compete at the championship distance. The team will look to build on its season-opening performance while testing itself against a strong Division I field.

Josslyn Gaona and Kaleigh Inniss led UIS at the season opener two weeks ago. The two seasoned Prairie Stars runners will again be among the competitors for UIS as the team moves to the longer championship distance.
