The Illinois Springfield volleyball team opens GLVC play this weekend with a pair of road matches, beginning Friday at 5 p.m. CT at Indianapolis before traveling to Lewis for a 3 p.m. match Saturday.
The Prairie Stars enter the conference slate at 3-7 after splitting their final two matches at the Griffon Invitational last weekend. UIS fell to host and No. 10 Missouri Western before closing the tournament with a gritty five-set victory over Arkansas Tech.
Makenna Cox has provided the Prairie Stars with a consistent offensive presence early in the season. She leads the GLVC with 4.03 kills per set and 4.46 points per set.
Madi Siefken has taken on setting duties for UIS and currently ranks sixth in the conference with 6.59 assists per set.
Indianapolis enters the weekend at 10-1 after winning its first 10 matches of the season before falling Saturday at No. 15 Lynn. The Greyhounds feature two of the conference's top offensive threats in Allison Jansen and Maddie Lynch. Jansen ranks second in the GLVC with a .398 hitting percentage, while Lynch is hitting .339. Jansen has also been a presence at the net, averaging 1.03 blocks per set, which ranks second in the conference. Amaree Haralson leads the Indianapolis offense with 6.18 assists per set.
Lewis brings a 6-5 record into Saturday's matchup after going 1-2 at at Embry-Riddle 's home tournament last weekend, including losses to the host Eagles and No. 11 Barry. The Flyers have faced five opponents this season that were either ranked or receiving votes.
The Flyers rank second in the GLVC with 2.22 blocks per set. Sarah Newberry leads Lewis with 1.07 blocks per set, followed by Emma O'Neill at 1.03. Ann Kelly Velikov averages 0.66 blocks per set and also leads the Flyers with 1.01 digs per set.
Offensively, Lauren Buxton leads Lewis with 2.63 kills per set, followed by Velikov at 2.19, Emma O'Neill at 2.11 and Newberry at 2.13.
