UIS Men's Soccer lost 2-1 to St. Cloud State on Saturday at Husky Stadium. The Prairie Stars scored once in the first half but were held scoreless after halftime and finished with seven total shots. Illinois Springfield drops to 0-4-1 and turns its attention to a conference game against Truman State on Wednesday.
The Huskies went up 1-0 on a goal by leading scorer Andres Garcia just over five minutes into the match. The Prairie Stars' answer came at 39:07, when
Robin Lemke Bergseth scored to pull the visitors even at 1-1.
Kevin Kardel kept Illinois Springfield within one with saves at 18:24 and 33:59 while St. Cloud St. pressed with multiple shots and corners.
Josh Mensching put two shots wide in the final 1:24, and the half ended tied 1-1.
St. Cloud St. put UIS behind 2-1 at 49:09 when Kingsley Kanu scored off Johan Lopez's assist. Kardel kept the Prairie Stars within that score with three second-half saves, including stops in the 60th, 65th, and 85th minutes. UIS pushed late with an 86:21 corner and
Ajdin Sobo's saved shot at 86:53, but the match ended in favor of St. Cloud.
