UIS women's soccer (1-1-0) fell to Trevecca Nazarene (1-0-1) with a final score of 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. Despite outshooting the Trojans 18-6, the Prairie Stars did not find the back of the net.
The match began with the Prairie Stars actively seeking opportunities, including a notable shot by
Sophia Davila at 3:04, which was saved by Trevecca Nazarene's goalkeeper, Penelope Charroin. UIS goalkeeper
Gigi Yurevich was excellent against one of Trevecca Nazarene's best early chances, getting the save and blocking the rebound to keep the game scoreless. UIS maintained offensive pressure with multiple shots and corner kicks, but struggled with accuracy as several attempts went wide. Trevecca Nazarene capitalized on its opportunity at 21:31, when Kylie Bradshaw scored with an assist from Evvy Hainline, putting the home team ahead.
UIS applied consistent pressure in the second half, highlighted by multiple attempts on goal. The Prairie Stars took 9 shots in the second half, including three in succession late in the game. Notably,
Autumn Diduch and
Addi Wittenberg each tested Trevecca Nazarene's substitute goalkeeper, Mary Bauchou, with several shots. Despite these efforts, Illinois Springfield could not convert opportunities into goals and the game ended in a 1-0 win for the Trojans.
Davila led the Prairie Stars with four shots, including two on goal, asserting her presence on the attack.

Scott Myers. "Soccer can be a brutal sport sometimes. We felt we were in the right places when we needed to be, but we did not capitalize on our chances. Credit to Trevecca for playing a tough match from start to finish. This match gives us something to grow from as we get ready for conference in a week's time. Purdue Northwest will give us one more opportunity to prepare before conference play begins."
The Prairie Stars will travel to Hammond, Ind., for a matchup against the PNW Pride on Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 3:00 p.m.
