The Illinois Springfield baseball team (26-8) secured a decisive 7-2 victory over Missouri-St. Louis (18-15) on Tuesday at UMSL Baseball Field. This game wrapped up a non-conference series that the teams started back in February, with the finale played on a weekday after being postponed due to cold weather. The Prairie Stars' offense was highlighted by a three-run sixth inning.
The game was scoreless through the first three innings, with both teams seemingly using a bullpen game approach since this matchup was sandwiched between two GLVC series.
Zane Danielson got the start for UIS, allowing just two hits and no real damage over 2â…“ innings, while
Derek Huber pitched the rest of the third cleanly. In the fourth,
Kody Morton walked, advanced to third on a series of plays, and scored on
Hunter Moser's RBI groundout.
Drew Ezard followed with a run on a single by
Brian Daker, putting UIS ahead 2–0 after four innings.
In the fifth,
Kaden Griffitts singled and Morton followed with a two-run homer, extending the lead to 4-0. Missouri-St. Louis responded with a solo home run, making it 4-1 through five innings.
UIS added three runs in the sixth inning.
Hunter Moser reached on a passed ball, scored on an error, and
Brian Daker and
Jesse Contreras also crossed the plate, extending the lead to 7-1. Missouri-St. Louis managed another run in the seventh, but the Prairie Stars maintained control.

Six UIS pitchers allowed just two runs on seven hits while striking out eight. After strong early frames from Danielson and Huber,
Graham Kasey appeared and gave up one run over two innings,
Kyle Tyler added a scoreless frame,
Austin Loberger tossed two hitless innings, and
Richie Snider finished with a perfect inning, retiring all three batters he faced.
Kody Morton led the way with two runs, three hits, including a home run, and two RBIs.
Brian Daker contributed two hits, a run scored, and an RBI.
The Prairie Stars have a record of 26-8. Missouri-St. Louis has a record of 18-15.
UIS will travel to Rolla, Missouri, to face Missouri S&T at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 10, kicking off another GLVC series.
