UIS Baseball Hosts McKendree in Final Regular Season Series

4/29/2026 12:00:00 PM

The UIS baseball team closes out the regular season this weekend with a four-game series against McKendree, with a schedule change shifting Thursday's opener to the UIS Baseball Field.

Originally scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start at Robin Roberts Stadium, Thursday's game will now be played at 1:00 p.m. at the UIS Baseball Field. The series continues Friday with a 1:00 p.m. / 4:00 p.m. doubleheader and concludes Saturday at noon at the UIS Baseball Field. Senior Day recognition will follow Saturday's finale, honoring 19 Prairie Stars.

UIS enters the weekend at 30-16 overall and 18-10 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars picked up a win to open last weekend's series at UIndy before dropping the final three games and will look to regroup heading into postseason play.

Five teams—Missouri S&T, UMSL, Drury, Maryville, and Quincy—have already clinched spots in the GLVC Tournament. UIS and UIndy are both one win away from securing a berth, with seeding still to be decided in the final days of the regular season.

Offensively, UIS continues to rank among the GLVC's best, sitting top-five with a .312 team batting average while also ranking second in the league with 64 home runs.

Individually, UIS features some of the GLVC's most productive hitters. Corey Boyette ranks among league leaders in both slugging percentage (.732) and on-base percentage (.517), while Kaden Griffitts sits near the top in RBIs (60). Tommy Atkinson (.376) and Boyette (.390) continue to pace the lineup with consistent production.

On the mound, Mark DeCicco (6-1) and Ben Benoit (6-3) have anchored the starting rotation, while Zane Danielson has emerged with a 3.75 ERA and made three recent starts.

McKendree (21-25, 13-15 GLVC) enters the weekend after splitting a high-scoring series with Lewis. The Bearcats lead the GLVC with 74 home runs and feature a balanced lineup led by Gabe Deaver (.348) and Sage McMinn (.316, 9 HR).

All games throughout the weekend will be streamed on the GLVC Sports Network, with live stats available online.
