UIS Baseball Falls to Indianapolis in Sunday Matchup

UIS baseball dropped its series finale to UIndy by a score of 6-1 on Sunday. The Prairie Stars claimed the opener on Friday but were unable to secure the series.

UIndy struck first in the opening inning, using a single and an RBI knock to take a 1-0 lead.

The Greyhounds extended their advantage in the third inning, capitalizing on a walk, a run-scoring double, a sacrifice bunt, and an RBI single to build a 4-0 cushion.

UIS broke through in the sixth inning. Corey Boyette reached on a walk and advanced to second before Noah Caceres drove him in with a double to left-center, cutting the deficit to 4-1.

UIndy answered in the seventh with a two-run home run, extending the lead to 6-1 and sealing the outcome.

Ben Benoit started on the mound for UIS and pitched the first four innings. Austin Loberger followed with three innings of relief, then Jaden Mathon closed the game with a strong inning, striking out three while allowing one hit. Benoit fell to 6-3 with the loss.

Caceres led UIS with an RBI double, while Boyette scored the team's lone run and drew two walks. Chris Suchoski added a hit and threw out two baserunners attempting to steal.

UIS now sits at 30-16 overall and 18-10 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars return home Thursday to host McKendree at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield at 6:00 p.m.. The rest of the series will be played at the UIS Baseball Field, including Saturday's Senior Day game.
