The UIS men's tennis team will travel to Owensboro, Ky., this weekend for its final two non-conference matches of the season, facing Campbellsville on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday at noon, with both matches taking place at the Kentucky Wesleyan site.
UIS (6-6) enters the weekend coming off a 4-3 win over Quincy in a non-conference matchup. The Prairie Stars earned the doubles point in that victory, with Lin En Ran,
Kai Van-Roon and
Luke Pennington each picking up singles wins to secure the team result.
UIS has been led this season by
Pablo Herrera, its No. 1 singles player, who is 9-3 on the year, while freshman
Luke Pennington has also been a key contributor at 7-3.
Campbellsville (6-8, 2-3 Mid-South Conference) has already worked through a portion of its league schedule, picking up a conference win over Freed-Hardeman but falling to Cumberlands. The Tigers most recently dropped a 4-3 decision to Tennessee Southern on Monday.
Campbellsville is paced by Alex Martin, who is 7-7 in singles play, and the doubles pairing of Martin and Juan Ochoa, which holds a 6-4 mark.
Kentucky Wesleyan (5-12, 0-4 G-MAC) enters the weekend having lost four straight conference matches. The Panthers had won back-to-back matches over Millikin and Franklin before that stretch. Kentucky Wesleyan is led by Jose Ferrandis, who is 5-9 in singles play and has also been part of the team's most successful doubles duo alongside Nick Stoever, which is 4-6.
Results from both matches will be posted on social media and at uisprairiestars.com following completion of play.
