Illinois Springfield men's tennis came up just short in a 4-3 loss to Rockhurst on Sunday at Washington Park.
The Prairie Stars opened the match with strong doubles play to earn the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles,
Pablo Herrera and
Lin En Tan earned a 6-2 victory, while
Kai Van-Roon and
Miran Todorovic matched that score with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
Lukas Pieringer and
Antonio Ayerbe Streubel fell 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play,
Pablo Herrera delivered a comeback victory at No. 1 singles, rallying for a 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 win.
Kai Van-Roon also picked up a point for the Prairie Stars with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles.
Antonio Ayerbe Streubel dropped a close 6-4, 7-5 decision at No. 2 singles, while
Lin En Tan fell 7-6, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Lukas Pieringer lost 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.
The match ultimately came down to
Miran Todorovic at No. 6 singles, where he battled before falling 6-3, 6-3 to give Rockhurst the deciding point.
