The Illinois Springfield men's tennis team is sest to compete Friday at Thomas More following the women's match, with the start estimated around 5:00 p.m. CT (6:00 p.m. ET). UIS enters the match looking to build off of key individual performances from its opening weekend.
Illinois Springfield
The Prairie Stars began the spring 0-2, falling 5-2 to Tiffin and 6-1 to No. 16 Findlay. Freshman
Luke Pennington has been a standout, going 2-0 in singles play with wins at No. 5 singles in both matches. At Tiffin,
Pablo Herrera earned a three-set victory at No. 1 singles, while the duo of
Lukas Pieringer and
Antonio Ayerbe Streubel secured a doubles win at No. 3. These successes offer early optimism as UIS seeks to string together more points against Thomas More.
Thomas More
Thomas More, meanwhile, is 0-1 on the season after a 7-0 loss to Northern Kentucky. The Saints' lineup features experienced players including Raphael Delente and Magnus Hauska, who will provide a stiff test for the Prairie Stars' singles and doubles units.
UIS will aim to capitalize on its early-season momentum and continue developing cohesion in both singles and doubles matches. The matchup offers a chance for the Prairie Stars to earn their first win of the spring campaign while setting the tone for the remainder of the spring season.
