The UIS Prairie Stars men's tennis team returns home Saturday to the Springfield Racquet and Fitness Club looking to continue a strong stretch of February play.
The Prairie Stars have already collected three wins this month, including a 6-1 victory over Michigan Tech during their previous home appearance and another 6-1 win at Evangel Valor earlier this week.
Singles play has been led by
Pablo Herrera, who enters at 6-2 on the season, and
Lin En Tan, who holds a 5-2 record. The doubles point has been an important early advantage for UIS, helping build momentum in each of the team's victories.
The Prairie Stars experimented with new doubles pairings in Monday's match, pairing Herrera with
Lukas Pieringer,
Kai Van-Roon with Tan, and
Antonio Ayerbe Streubel with
Colton Pazdera.
UIS will face a competitive challenge from Roosevelt, who enter the match 3-4 overall. Juan Caicedo earned recognition as the GLIAC Player of the Week during the most recent stretch of competition. In the Lakers' 6-1 loss to UIC, Caicedo captured the No. 1 singles match 6-4, 6-1.
