Winter and spring seasons collide as Prairie Stars athletics hits a busy stretch. Five UIS teams will compete at home this week!
At a glance, softball hosts Davenport and Ohio Dominican at the Springfield Clinic Dome. Women's and men's basketball close out their home schedules, while track and field travels to Jacksonville, Ill. Tennis heads to Missouri, and baseball opens its home slate.
Thursday, Feb. 19
1:00 p.m. – Softball vs. Davenport (HOME, UIS Softball Capital City McDonald's Classic)
The Prairie Stars (7-3) host their second tournament of the season at the Springfield Clinic Dome at Scheels Sports Park. UIS is coming off a 4-0 weekend at the UIS Softball Springfield Clinic Classic and prepares for Davenport, which opens its season Thursday. UIS leads the all-time series 3-0, with meetings from 2019-23.
The three-team tournament features a rotating schedule. UIS will play each opponent once per day Thursday and Friday, while Ohio Dominican and Davenport face each other in the morning game both days.
3:00 p.m. – Softball vs. Ohio Dominican (HOME, UIS Softball Capital City McDonald's Classic)
UIS continues indoor play against Ohio Dominican, which has played just four games this season after multiple early cancellations and is still seeking its first win. The Prairie Stars hold a 4-2 advantage in the all-time series.
5:30 p.m. – Women's Basketball vs. Lewis (HOME)
UIS (11-13) returns home after winning two straight on the road, closing a long stretch of away games with its final home weekend of the regular season. Currently ninth in the GLVC standings, the Prairie Stars remain in a tight race where every game carries postseason implications. Lewis (15-9, 11-5 GLVC) sits within the conference's top eight and enters the week after an overtime win against Maryville and a close loss to McKendree. The Flyers lead the all-time series 21-3.
CEFCU Pajama Party — The final Thursday night game at TRAC this season features a pajama-themed promotion. Fans are encouraged to wear their favorite PJs as the Prairie Stars and Flyers meet in a key GLVC matchup.
7:30 p.m. – Men's Basketball vs. Lewis (HOME)
The Prairie Stars (15-9, 11-5 GLVC) return to TRAC looking to snap a three-game road losing streak. Lewis (4-20, 2-14 GLVC) enters after a difficult stretch and is still searching for its first win since Jan. 4.
CEFCU Pajama Party — The same promotion carries into the men's contest as TRAC is expected to be packed with UIS students and Prairie Star fans.
Friday, Feb. 20
Evening – Track and Field at Hilltop Classic
UIS travels to Jacksonville, Ill., to compete at Illinois College in the Hilltop Classic. The meet marks the final regular-season opportunity to post GLVC qualifying marks, although many Prairie Stars are already positioned for postseason competition.
9:00 a.m. – Women's Tennis vs. Illinois State (Exhibition, HOME)
UIS remains in Springfield for an exhibition match against Illinois State before heading to Missouri for weekend competition.
12:00 p.m. – Softball vs. Ohio Dominican (HOME, UIS Softball Capital City McDonald's Classic)
UIS meets the Panthers for the second time during tournament play.
12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. – Baseball vs. UMSL (HOME)
The Prairie Stars (5-2) open their home schedule after a road trip through the southern states, including a split four-game series at Florida Southern. UIS hosts UMSL for two games Friday before the series concludes Sunday in St. Louis. UMSL (3-5) has recorded wins against three different opponents but has yet to string victories together. UIS leads the all-time series 21-17 and won three of four meetings in March of last season.
2:00 p.m. – Softball vs. Davenport (HOME, UIS Softball Capital City McDonald's Classic)
UIS closes tournament play with an afternoon matchup against Davenport.
Saturday, Feb. 21
1:00 p.m. – Women's Basketball vs. Upper Iowa (HOME)
Upper Iowa (13-12, 9-8 GLVC) sits just ahead of UIS in the conference standings, making this matchup a key opportunity for the Prairie Stars to gain ground late in the season.Â
Promotions include: Senior Day, Cancer Awareness Game, and recognition of campus and community partners.
3:00 p.m. – Men's Basketball vs. Upper Iowa (HOME)
Upper Iowa (16-8, 11-6 GLVC) enters the weekend seventh in the conference standings, just behind UIS in a tightly packed race. UIS has clinched a GLVC Tournament berth, while Upper Iowa faces No. 23 McKendree prior to traveling to Springfield.
Promotions include: Senior Day, Cancer Awareness Game, and campus and community partner recognition.
Sunday, Feb. 22
12:00 p.m. – Women's Tennis at Drury (Schedule Adjustment)
UIS (1-5) heads to Missouri following a 6-1 home loss to Michigan Tech. The Prairie Stars face Drury (2-0), which enters after wins against Harding and Northeastern State. The match will be played at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo.
12:00 p.m. – Men's Tennis at Drury (Schedule Adjustment)
UIS (3-3) evened its record with a 6-1 win over Michigan Tech. Drury (2-1) enters after back-to-back 7-0 victories. The match will also take place at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. – Baseball at UMSL
UIS closes the non-conference series on the road in St. Louis.
