The Illinois Springfield men's cross country team is set for its biggest test of the season Saturday at the Lewis Crossover in Romeoville, Ill. The meet features one of the largest and strongest NCAA Division II cross country fields in the nation, with top programs from the Midwest and across the country.
The field includes less opponents for UIS, such as Biola, Colorado Christian and Florida Southern, alongside regional competition from Saginaw Valley State, Findlay, and others. While the meet features less Great Lakes Valley Conference representation this year, the Prairie Stars will face conference rival Lewis for the first time this fall.
UIS will send 15 runners to compete in the men's 8K.
Owen Whelan has led the Prairie Stars in both races this season and will look to continue that momentum against a deep field.
Saturday's race provides the team with its largest competitive field of the season and a valuable opportunity to assess its progress against some of the region's and nation's top cross country programs.
