This Week in UIS Athletics: Oct. 5-11

Homecoming Week is here on the Prairie, with the UIS Prairie Stars hosting several home events throughout the week, including women's soccer, men's soccer and volleyball. Fans attending home games throughout the week can enjoy giveaways while cheering on the Prairie Stars. UIS teams will also compete on the road and across the region as the fall season continues. 

Monday, Oct. 5 

All Day  — Men's / Women's Golf at Bradley Coyote Creek Classic 
Both men's and women's golf competed in the final day of action at the Coyote Creek Classic. The men's team finished in fourth place overall, while the women's team finished sixth. Following this event, the Prairie Stars head to their final event of the fall season at the Bearcat Dual Gender event in Caseyville, Ill. 

Wednesday, Oct. 7 

4 p.m. — Women's Soccer vs. Indianapolis 
UIS (6-4-1, 4-3-1 GLVC) hosts Indianapolis (1-9, 1-8 GLVC) this week. The Prairie Stars look to build on their back-to-back wins in their last two games. The Stars downed the Upper Iowa Peacocks 7-0 and followed it up with a 2-1 win against William Jewell last time out. Meanwhile, the UIndy Greyhounds are on a run of six straight losses, most 6-0 to Missouri S&T. UIS has beaten UIndy in the last four consecutive meetings. 

6:30 p.m. — Men's Soccer vs. Indianapolis 
UIS (1-7-3, 1-4-3 GLVC) faces off against UIndy (5-3-4, 4-2-3 GLVC) this week at home. UIS has tied its last two matches, while UIndy managed a 2-1 win on the road against Missouri S&T last time out. UIS looks to pick up a big win back at home this week. UIS has only beaten the Greyhounds one time in the head-to-head series. 

Pack Kiwanis Stadium for a pair of huge Homecoming matchups! The Homecoming soccer games will feature a T-shirt giveaway for UIS students, along with mini pennants and boom sticks for all fans. Homecoming tailgates will also bring a lively atmosphere to the games.

Thursday, Oct. 8

5:30 p.m. — UIS Basketball Tip-Off Dinner
Join UIS Athletics for an evening celebrating the upcoming basketball season. Meet the men's and women's basketball coaches and players and get ready for another season of Prairie Stars basketball. Click here to register.

Friday, Oct. 9 

All Day — Men's Tennis at Dwight Davis Open 
Men's Tennis continues its fall season at the Dwight Davis College Open in St. Louis, Mo. The men will be divided into draws of 16, separated based on level, and will compete in a consolation-style elimination draw. This event is the second event for the men's tennis team following an impressive team performance at the Drury Invitational. 

3 p.m. — Softball vs. Lincoln Land
The Prairie Stars play a fall scrimmage against the Loggers at their home field.

6 p.m. — Volleyball vs. Drury 
UIS (4-12, 1-5 GLVC) faces off against Drury (12-4, 3-2 GLVC) at home. UIS looks to snap out of its run of three straight losses, while Drury arrives in Springfield off a victory against SBU. The Prairie Stars have won the last two meetings between the teams. 

Following the match, the UIS basketball teams will take the court for a special introductory event as part of Homecoming Week, giving fans an early look at the Prairie Stars before their seasons tip off next month. Admission is free, and registration is not required.

6:30 p.m. — Baseball vs. Lincoln Land
The Prairie Stars play a fall scrimmage against the neighboring Lincoln Land Community College Loggers at Robin Roberts Stadium.

Saturday, Oct. 10 

All Day — Men's Tennis at Dwight Davis Open 
Continued action for the men's tennis team at the Dwight Davis Open in St. Louis, Missouri. 

All Day — Women's Tennis at ITA Regionals 
UIS Women's Tennis heads to ITA Regionals at Grand Valley State in Michigan. This is the last event for the women's team in the fall season. The ITA Regional event will see the women's team split into several flights of competition in both singles and doubles. 

9:30 a.m. — Flag Football Open Practice/Punt. Pass & Kick Fundraiser
Check out the newest UIS program during a Homecoming Week open practice, followed by the Punt, Pass & Kick event. Admission is free, and no registration is required. Click here to make Punt, Pass & Kick pledges.

9:45 a.m. — Men's Cross Country at Lewis Crossover 
Men's Cross Country travels to Romeoville, Ill., for the Lewis Crossover. Last time out at the Illinois State Redbird Invite, the men placed third, beating out Eastern Illinois. 

10:30 a.m. — Women's Cross Country at Lewis Crossover 
UIS Women's Cross Country travels to the Lewis Crossover in Romeoville, Ill. In the last event, the Stars competed against a Division I field at the ISU Redbird Invite. 

11:00 a.m. — Prairie Stars Hall of Fame Luncheon
Celebrate the induction of Alyssa Hasler, Kevin Gamble, Kathy Sigle and the 2006-07 Men's Basketball Team at the UIS Athletics Hall of Fame Luncheon. Click here to register.

12 p.m. — Women's Soccer at Maryville 
UIS (6-4-1, 4-3-1 GLVC) heads to St. Louis to face Maryville (6-4-2, 6-1-1 GLVC) following its bout against Indianapolis earlier in the week. Maryville will play away against Quincy for its midweek matchup. 

2 p.m. — Volleyball vs. Southwest Baptist 
UIS (4-12, 1-5 GLVC) returns to action against Southwest Baptist (10-6, 2-3 GLVC) for its second matchup of the week. UIS faces Drury (12-4, 3-2 GLVC) earlier in the week. Drury beat SBU in its last matchup. UIS leads the head-to-head series against the Bearcats 6-2. 

Purchase a ticket to the Rally Lounge hospitality experience and enjoy a unique view of the match from the south court of TRAC Arena, transformed into a space for Chicago Dogs, treats, and Prairie Star Pride. Tickets are $15 and include themed snacks celebrating the Route 66 Centennial. When purchasing a ticket to Saturday's match through HomeTown Ticketing, select the $15 Rally Lounge option instead of a general admission ticket. Tickets will also be available at the gate, but capacity is limited.

2:30 p.m. — Men's Soccer at Maryville 
UIS goes on the road to St. Louis to take on the No. 1 team in the GLVC, Maryville (8-3-1, 6-1-1 GLVC). The Saints were undefeated in conference play until they dropped a 1-0 contest in their last match against Rockhurst. The Prairie Stars lead the head-to-head series against the Saints 11-9-4. 

Sunday, Oct. 11 

All Day — Women's Tennis at ITA Regionals 
Continued action from Day 2 of the ITA Regionals, with potential to qualify for Monday's finals. 

All Day — UIS Baseball Golf Outing
The UIS baseball program hosts its annual golf outing at Piper Glen Golf Course. Registration is open through Oct. 7. Click here to register.
