The University of Illinois Springfield Athletics Department is proud to announce a record-high department GPA of 3.63 for the Fall 2025 semester — the highest in program history. This marks the fourth straight semester the department has posted a GPA above 3.50, continuing a streak of academic excellence. UIS has now achieved a record-setting semester in at least one of the two semesters each year for the past three years, demonstrating consistent academic performance across all programs.
"I am amazed as our student-athletes continue to surpass expectations," said director of athletics Mike Hermann. "Setting another academic record and exceeding the 3.6 mark this fall are outstanding accomplishments that reflect the strong culture of academic achievement within our athletics program. While our student-athletes deserve tremendous credit, I also want to recognize the vital role our faculty, coaches, advisors, and learning hub staff play in supporting, challenging, and celebrating their academic success."
Every UIS team posted a semester GPA above 3.30, reflecting the Prairie Stars' commitment to excellence in the classroom as well as on the field. This semester, 23% of student-athletes earned perfect 4.0 GPAs (55 students), and 73.2% achieved a 3.50 GPA or higher (175 students), continuing the strong academic trends from Spring 2025.
The women's tennis team led all programs with a 3.92 GPA, while men's golf topped the men's programs with a 3.77 GPA, continuing their tradition of academic excellence.
UIS student-athletes continue to excel academically while balancing the demands of competition, travel, and practice, demonstrating the Prairie Stars' dedication to holistic success.
