University of Illinois Springfield Chancellor Janet L. Gooch has been appointed to a four-year term on the NCAA Committee on Access, Opportunity and Impact. Formed by merging four NCAA groups focused on equity and inclusion, the committee works to broaden opportunities for student-athletes across all divisions of the NCAA.
Since becoming UIS chancellor in 2022, Gooch has emphasized student success, access, and belonging. She said, "I am honored to represent UIS and Division II institutions on this committee. Ensuring equitable opportunities for student-athletes is essential to the future of college sports, and I look forward to contributing to these efforts."
The committee provides guidance on NCAA policies, promotes leadership and participation for student-athletes from underrepresented backgrounds, and works to make sure all student-athletes have a meaningful voice in shaping collegiate athletics.
