The Illinois Springfield men's tennis team will continue competing at the ITA Regional in Allendale, Mich. on Monday, after action over Saturday and Sunday. Several Prairie Stars advanced through early rounds in both singles and doubles, setting up key finals and semifinals.
Singles
Pablo Herrera lost 6-3, 4-6, [10-4] in the round of 64 in Flight A singles and did not contest his consolation round of 16 match against Diego Schultmann following a bye in the round of 32.
Antonio Ayerbe Streubel also fell in the round of 64, 6-1, 6-0.
Lin En Tan, competing in Flight B, opened with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Roosevelt's DeMille Scarabello and followed that with a 6-4, 6-3 victory in the round of 32. He fell 6-1, 6-1 in the round of 16 Sunday morning.
Kai Van-Roon advanced in Flight C with wins over Quincy (6-2, 6-3) and Tiffin's Marlon Huber (6-2, 6-2), then moved through the semifinal via opponent withdrawal. He will face Wayne State's Gunnar Warren in the Flight C singles final Monday at 8:00 a.m. Central (9:00 a.m. Eastern).
Luke Pennington reached the Flight C consolation singles final after winning 6-3, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-1 in earlier consolation matches and advancing through a semifinal walkover. He will face the winner of Alvaro Rueda and Rodrigo Trevino Coello Monday at 12:30 p.m. Central (1:30 p.m. Eastern).
Miran Todorovic fell in the opening round in Flight C, 7-5, 2-6, [6-10], then won a walkover in the consolation before losing 6-4, 6-1 to Hillsdale's Rintaro Goda in the consolation quarterfinal.
Colton Pazdera lost 7-5, 6-2 in Flight D's opening round but bounced back on Sunday with a 6-3, 6-2 consolation win over Findlay's Cayden Stratford. He followed that with a 3-6, 6-4, [10-5] victory in the consolation semifinal and will play Davenport's Jacob Brown in the Flight D consolation final Monday at 9:30 a.m. Central (10:30 a.m. Eastern).
Doubles
Flight A pair
Kai Van-Roon and
Pablo Herrera lost 8-4 in the opening round and did not contest their Sunday consolation match.
In Flight B,
Lin En Tan and
Antonio Ayerbe Streubel fell 8-6 to GVSU but advanced past the round of 16 in consolation due to an opponent withdrawal. They won their Sunday quarterfinal 8-5 against Maryville and will play Quincy's Alvaro Rueda and Patricio Jiminez Alcocer Monday at 11:00 a.m. Central (12:00 a.m. Eastern), with the final scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Central (2:30 p.m. Eastern) if they advance.
In Flight C doubles,
Luke Pennington and
Colton Pazdera won their opening match 8-4 but lost 8-2 in the round of 16, while
Miran Todorovic and
Lukas Pieringer won their first match 8-4 before falling 8-3 in round two.
