The UIS women's soccer team opened GLVC play with a 3-3 draw against William Jewell on Sunday afternoon at Kiwanis Stadium. Both teams now hold 1-1-2 records.
Mallory Herber delivered a hat trick in the game, keeping the Prairie Stars level with William Jewell. It was the first hat trick for UIS women's soccer since Sierra Cenek's in 2023.
Game Recap
The match began with misfortune for UIS, as a shot slipped past rushing goalkeeper
Gigi Yurevich inside the first 10 minutes and trickled into the net for an early Cardinals lead. The Prairie Stars responded quickly when
Abbie Gleason set up
Mallory Herber for the equalizer.
William Jewell regained control late in the first half through a goal from Lux Sands, who added another shortly after a quiet start to the second half. Down 3-1, UIS again leaned on Herber, who scored her second of the day off a feed from
Madelyn Festerling to bring the Stars back within one.
In the 85th minute, a penalty kick gave Herber the opportunity to complete her hat trick, and the sophomore confidently converted to level the score.
UIS outshot William Jewell 16-9, including an 11-5 edge on goal, but Cardinals goalkeeper Jenna Skeeters turned away eight chances. Yurevich finished with two saves for UIS.
Following the match, the Prairie Stars celebrated their nine seniors in a Senior Day ceremony.
