Prairie Stars Drop GLVC-Opening Doubleheader at Truman State

The Illinois Springfield softball team opened GLVC play with a pair of losses to Truman State on Friday, falling 6-1 in game one and 9-3 in game two at Truman Softball Park.

GAME ONE | L, 6-1
  • In the first game, Truman State took an early lead with two runs in the first and added three more in the fifth to pull away. 
  • UIS got on the board in the fifth when Koral Keehner singled up the middle to drive in Rosie Bartletti. 
  • Bartletti led UIS at the plate, going 2-for-3, while Sophie Rivera and Malia Bender each added a hit. 
  • In the circle, Bartletti (4-4) took the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings. Taylor Zawacki provided 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, striking out two. 

GAME TWO | L, 9-3
  • Game two saw UIS jump ahead 2-0 in the second inning after Rosie Bartletti stole home and Addyson McClure followed with an RBI triple. 
  • Truman State responded with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning and tied the game in the third. 
  • A sacrifice fly in the fifth gave the Bulldogs the lead before they erupted for six runs in the sixth, powered by three home runs. 
  • Nyla Cooper hit a solo homer in the seventh for UIS, but the Prairie Stars were unable to mount a comeback.
  • McClure (4-2) took the loss, allowing five runs over five innings. Alexis Carroll allowed four runs in one inning of relief. 
Up Next
UIS will look to rebound at home Sunday against Quincy, a conference doubleheader starting at noon.
