Illinois Springfield women's basketball takes a break from GLVC play this Sunday afternoon, hosting Roosevelt for the first time ever. The Lakers, newcomers to NCAA Division II in 2024-25, come from the Midwest's GLIAC conference, giving UIS a fresh in-region opponent to open a three-game non-conference stretch before conference play resumes on Jan. 2.

Illinois Springfield (3-6, 1-3 GLVC)
The Prairie Stars opened their three-game home stretch with a 75-49 win over William Jewell, but dropped their next two contests, falling 68-66 at McKendree and 74–56 to Maryville. UIS boasts multiple scoring threats, led by Kayla Rice (13.4 ppg) and Kennedy Osterman (13.1 ppg), with freshman Julia Mingus contributing 12.6 points per game. Mingus, from Peoria, Ill., has reached double figures in all but one of her nine games to start her college career. The trio has helped UIS rank No. 2 in NCAA Division II in three-point shooting at 40.19%, just behind Tampa (40.29%).

Roosevelt (1-5, 0-2 GLIAC)
The Lakers earned a one-point win at Walsh (61-60) on Nov. 22 but have since gone 0-2 in conference play, falling 64-48 to Michigan Tech and 83-82 to No. 17 Northern Michigan. Despite the losses, the Lakers showed fight, including a 32-point final quarter against Northern Michigan, led by Isabella Pitta's 21 points in the game. Roosevelt ranks ninth in the GLIAC, averaging just 56.3 points per game while shooting 34.6% overall and 28.5% from three.
