Prairie Stars Battle Hard in 1-0 Loss to McKendree

The UIS men's soccer team fell to McKendree 1-0 on Sunday at Kiwanis Stadium, with McKendree's lone goal coming in the first half.

UIS goalkeeper Landon Amick made a crucial save in the opening minutes to deny McKendree's Alonso Romero Carmona. Gentil Selemani and Spencer Martin each took shots that went wide, as the Prairie Stars sought to find the breakthrough.

Midway through the half, McKendree's Adam Reiniger scored a goal for a 1-0 lead. The Prairie Stars responded with attempts by Robin Lemke Bergseth, but both efforts were stopped by McKendree's goalkeeper Toby Lewis. Despite several offensive pushes, the Prairie Stars were unable to level the score before the break.

UIS opened the second half looking to change the pace. Bencomo tested McKendree's goalkeeper Lewis in the 60th minute, but the shot was saved. At the other end, Amick kept the Stars in it with key stops on Henri Poll and Philipp Muehlhans.

Jero Bencomo continued to create chances throughout the second half, including a late attempt in the 87th minute, but the Prairie Stars couldn't find the equalizer before the final whistle.

Landon Amick recorded seven saves, conceding one goal in a full 90-minute performance. Bergseth led the team with four shots, two on target. Bencomo took three shots, with one on goal, contributing to the team's offensive efforts.
