Softball Loses Final Regular Season Games, Narrowly Misses Out on Conference Tournament

The UIS Softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon against Indianapolis to close out their 2024 campaign. The Prairie Stars just missed finishing in conference qualifying position, as they came in ninth. UIS finishes the season with a 28-26 overall record with a 12-14 record in GLVC play. Indianapolis improved to 50-3 overall with a 25-1 conference record, winning another GLVC Regular Season Title.

GAME ONE (L, 1-4)

  • The Greyhounds took the lead in the first inning with a 3-run home run

  • Nyla Cooper hit a single in the fifth to bring home one run, with another runner getting thrown out at home plate

  • Indy hit an RBI double in the sixth to make it 4-1

  • The Greyhound pitcher, Kenzee Smith, earned her 29th win of the season 

  • Alexis Carroll (8-8) took the loss in the circle, only giving up 5 hits

GAME TWO (L, 2-5)

  • UIndy took an early lead in the second game with an RBI single and scoring on a fielder's choice

  • Indianapolis hit a home run in the second to take a 3-0 lead

  • The Greyhounds extended their lead in the third on an RBI groundout and RBI single

  • UIS was able to score in the fourth as Isabella Wilson hit an RBI double

  • The Prairie Stars scored again in the seventh on an Olivia DeLuca RBI double, but were not able to score any more

  • Taylor Zawacki (5-7) earned the loss in 6 innings of work
