Softball Splits Saturday Series Against UMSL in Low-Scoring Affairs

The UIS Softball team split their Saturday series against UMSL in two low-scoring games. UIS moves to 26-22 on the year with a 10-10 record in GLVC play. UMSL moves to 22-24 on the season with a 9-11 conference record. 

GAME ONE (W, 2-1)

  • The first game of the day was a pitcher's duel as both starters went 5 or more innings

  • UIS took the lead in the third with a two-out rally from the top of the order

  • Taylor Zawacki hit a 2 RBI double to give the Stars a lead

  • UMSL scored in the seventh inning and continued to threaten 

  • Alexis Carroll came in and shut the door to earn the save, her first of the year

  • Rosie Bartletti (8-7) earned the win, going 6 innings with 9 strikeouts, only allowing the 1 run

GAME TWO (L, 1-2 in 8 innings)

  • UIS was able to load the bases in the first inning but only scored one run which came from a wild pitch

  • Both starting pitchers continued to dominate as each offense struggled

  • UMSL scored in the fifth inning on a dropped third strike and reaching on an error, as the runner came home from third

  • Neither team was able to string together hits so the game went to extra innings

  • The Triton batter hit a single to right which brought home the winning run in the eighth 

  • Alexis Carroll (8-5) earned the loss

Up Next

The Prairie Stars take on McKendree tomorrow afternoon in their final home games of the season. The Stars will celebrate and recognize their four seniors.
