Softball Wins Second Half of Doubleheader at William Jewell

The UIS softball team split a pair of games in Liberty, Mo. on Saturday against the William Jewell Cardinals. UIS is now 24-20 overall and even at 8-8 in GLVC play.
Game One (L, 5-0)
  • Every run in the game came in the bottom of the first
  • The WJC scoring rout started when two singles and a stolen base were followed by a double. Two more runs crossed on an error, and the fifth was scored on a wid pitch
  • UIS put runners on in the second, third, fourth, and sixth innings but failed to plate a run
  • The Prairie Stars hit three straight singles in the second inning before it ended with a fielder's choice
  • The third inning also looked promising for UIS as runners reached on a single, an error, and a fielder's choice. An inning-ending fielder's choice put a stop to the UIS offense once again
  • Rosie Bartletti pitched all six innings, striking out five Cardinals in the outing but falling to 7-7 with the loss
Game Two (W, 4-2)
  • William Jewell went up 1-0 on an error in the second inning of game two
  • The UIS offense came to life in the fifth but left the bases loaded
  • The Prairie Stars then scored four runs on five hits in the seventh inning
  • Sophie Margelot hit the first of five singles in the inning before Olivia DeLuca walked. Rosie Bartletti singled to fill the bases before Ella Brinkley's single plated two runs
  • Rosie Bartletti stole third base and scored on an error by the Cardinals' catcher
  • Isabella Wilson singled for Brinkley to score. Taylor Zawacki's hit moved Wilson to second, but the top of the seventh would come to a close shortly after
  • The WJC comeback attempt started with a home run. The Cardinals managed one more hit in the inning but would strand the runner
  • Taylor Zawacki pitched all seven innings, striking out eight to improve her record to 5-6 overall
