Softball Wins Two Tight Games Against Ferris State to Start Space Coast Spring Games

The UIS Softball team was able to win both games on Friday by a one-run margin to start the Space Coast Spring Games in Melbourne, Florida. The Prairie Stars improve to 11-7 on the season with the wins.

GAME ONE (W, 1-0)

  • UIS took the lead in the 1st inning after Malia Bender hit a triple and Isabella Wilson drove her home

  • Ferris State had two runners in scoring position in the 5th, but Rosie Bartletti was able to pitch out of the jam

  • The Bulldogs threatened again in the 6th, but UIS was able to get out of it

  • In the bottom of the 7th Ferris State loaded the bases, but Ella Brinkley was able to turn an amazing double play to end the game to secure the win

  • Rosie Bartletti pitched a complete game to earn the win, only giving up 4 hits


GAME TWO (W, 2-1)

  • UIS took the lead in the 2nd inning on aggressive baserunning

  • Jacy Watts hit a triple which was followed by an Isabella Wilson walk

  • Wilson proceeded to try and steal second and was caught in a run-down. Watts took home to give the Stars a 1-0 lead

  • Ferris State tied the game in the 6th on a fielder's choice

  • Taylor Zawacki hit a triple in the 7th to put UIS in position to win

  • Rosie Bartletti hit a sacrifice fly to bring her home and give the Stars a 2-1 lead, where the game would end

  • Zawacki also earned the win in the circle in 2 innings pitched while allowing 0 hits

The Prairie Stars are back in action tomorrow morning with games against Cedarville and Walsh.
