Baseball Splits Saturday Games Against McKendree

The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team split a pair of games in a doubleheader against McKendree on Saturday at UIS Baseball Field. The Prairie Stars move to 14-10 on the season with a 5-6 record in GLVC play. The Bearcats move to 8-15 on the season with a 2-8 conference record.

GAME ONE (L, 3-8)

  • McKendree took a lead in the second inning with a two-run home run

  • The Bearcats added three more runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead

  • UIS cut the lead to two in the bottom of the third with an RBI double from Ivan Dahlberg and a 2 RBI double from Mark Kattula

  • McKendree scored another in the fifth with a home run

  • The Bearcats added some more insurance runs in the sixth with a sacrifice fly and an RBI double

  • Jacob Newman (1-4) took the loss on the mound in 2.1 IP while giving up 5 runs

GAME TWO (W, 11-1)

  • McKendree once again took an early lead on an RBI groundout in the first

  • UIS took the lead in the third on a 2 RBI single by Mark Kattula

  • Mack Clark then grounded out while bringing home a run to make it 3-1 Stars

  • In the fourth the Prairie Stars loaded the bases, forcing a run home as Jacyk Uehling walked

  • Ivan Dahlberg hit a long foul ball which Johnny Colombo tagged up on to make it 5-1

  • Mack Clark smacked a home run in the fifth

  • Noah Caceres hit a sac fly in the fifth to bring home another run

  • Johnny Colombo then scored on a wild pitch

  • UIS added more runs as Johnny Wendling doubled to left

  • Drew Ezard scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to make it 11-1 Stars

  • Riley Moran (1-1) earned the win, going all seven innings while only allowing 1 hit with 7 strikeouts
