No. 24 Prairie Stars Split Doubleheader with Cardinals

The UIS baseball team split a doubleheader with the William Jewell Cardinals in Saturday. UIS fell to 3-4 in GLVC play, 12-8 overall. The series finale is set for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday
GAME ONE (L, 14-4)
  • Brant Vanaman started the day with a solo shot in the first
  • The Cardinals went up 6-1 in their half of the inning and the Prairie Stars saw Jack Winterbauer take the mound
  • WJC scored two runs in the second, four in the third, and one in the fourth tpo go up 13-1
  • Ivan Dahlberg singled to score Johnny Colombo in the fifth. UIS earned another run on a bases loaded walk
  • TJ Yakimisky singled in the sixth and Johnny Wendling followed with a double.Yakimisky would score on Johnny Colombo's groundout for UIS to trail 13-4
  • The last run of the first game was scored on a WJC RBI single
  • Adam Lindsey fell to 0-3 with the loss
GAME TWO (W, 11-6)
  • Jacyk Uehling's leadoff walk was followed by three singles for a 2-0 UIS lead
  • The bases were loaded again when Drew Ezard was hit by a pitch, then UIS added a run when Mack Clark was walked
  • A sac fly by Johnny Wendling scored Ivan Dahlberg for fourth and final run in the first inning
  • UIS hit three consecutive singles again in the second, scoring Noah Caceras to go up 5-0
  • William Jewell found two runs in the bottom of the fourth 
  • Another Brant Vanaman RBI single added a run for UIS in the top of the sixth. UIS baserunners then took advantage of an error to lead 8-2
  • The Cardinals' sixth-inning rally started with a home run. A total of four runs scored in the inning but it was not enough for WJC as they trailed 8-6 late in the seven inning game
  • The Prairie Stars added three insurance runs in the seventh
  • Mason Graham pitched for UIS in the seventh and closed it with a strikeout
