UIS Athletics has announced that Jessenia Lawson is the Jimmy John's Athlete of the Month for January 2024. Lawson competed in six games, averaging 19.5 points and 9.33 rebounds per game. UIS student-athletes who have competed in regular season or postseason competition during the month of January were voted on by committee.

The junior guard out of Las Vegas, Nev. recorded two double-doubles including a 14-rebound, 28-point game against the Drury Panthers and a 15-rebound, 24-point performance against Southwest Baptist three weeks later.

Lawson led the GLVC in steals and ranked as high as #3 in scoring and #7 in field goal percentage.

The UIS women's basketball team had a 5-2 record during the month of January.

Jimmy John's Athlete of the Month honorees from the 2023-24 year will be under consideration for UIS Male Athlete of the Year and UIS Female Athlete of the Year upon the end of the 2023-24 year of competition. A freshman nominee will be considered for Rookie of the Year.
