UIS Volleyball Finishes Capital Classic With 1-2 Record

Prairie Stars Volleyball finished the 2023 Capital Classic with a 1-2 record. UIS fell in its first two matches before defeating Arkansas Tech to finish out tournament play.

UIS vs. MWSU
The Prairie Stars fell to the Missouri Western State Griffons in the opening match by scores of 25-29, 25-18, 28-26. Marta Perez Tapia had two aces in the match while Eirini Glynou helped the offense with 13 kills. MWSU outscored UIS 51-42 with five more kills and three more blocks. The Prairie Stars had more digs thanks to Amanda McConnell who contributed thirteen.

UIS vs. TAMIU
UIS fell to Texas A&M International on Friday by scores of 23-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20. The Prairie Stars kept within four points of the Dust Devils until the end of the third set, and even outplayed their opponent in terms of points, kills, aces, assists, and digs.

Eirini Glynou had a big game with a single-game career high of 21 kills and 19 digs. Amanda McConnell contributed eighteen digs and Maria Spengler added two blocks to the defensive effort.

UIS vs. ATU
UIS defeated Arkansas Tech in straight sets on Saturday, outscoring the opponent 42-35. Erica Sledge contributed one ace, a block and 31 assists in one of her best performances of the tournament.

Two runs of five points or more in the first set of the match set the tone for the Prairie Stars. Arkansas Tech hung on, going point-for-point for much of the second set and making an attempt to finally pull away from the Stars in set three. The momentum switched when a major block by Ericka Snopko and Erica Sledge was followed with a string of attack errors by the Golden Suns.

Up Next
UIS will take its 1-2 record to the Denton Volleyfest hosted by Texas Woman's University.
