UIS Volleyball Hosts Capital Classic to Start 2023 Season

The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team will host the Capital Classic this weekend at TRAC. The tournament starts on Thursday night as the Prairie Stars take on Missouri Western State at 6 PM. 
The five teams competing in this year's Capital Classic are the UIS Prairie Stars, Missouri Western State, Texas A&M International, Arkansas Tech, and a familiar conference opponent in McKendree. UIS is coming off of a 12-13 record last season, but with a 6-1 home record in the same span. Missouri Western State, out of the difficult MIAA Conference, finished last year with a record of 11-18. Texas A&M International, a member of the Lone Star Conference, had a record of 23-8, but were ultimately denied a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Arkansas Tech, out of the Great American Conference, finished last season with an 8-22 record. McKendree, a fellow GLVC member, had a 9-16 record during the 2022 season. 
The tournament will feature nine matches altogether, with each team playing a round robin besides UIS against McKendree. To find the complete tournament schedule visit the tournament homepage here. 
Single-day admission is $8 at the gate, cash only. A tournament pass is also available for $15. Free admission for youth 12 and under, UIS students with valid ID, and UIS faculty and staff. All games will be streamed on the GLVC Sports Network (Pay-per-view).
